Rooted Resilience™ Has Been Updated: Whole-Person Support Between Cancer Appointments and Beyond
Cancer care does not stop when you leave the doctor’s office.
There are appointments, scans, treatments, lab results, and conversations with the healthcare team. But then there are all the hours in between.
Those are the hours when questions often surface.
What should I be eating? Should I be moving more or resting? How can I better manage stress? Are there things in my environment I should be thinking about? What role might my genetics play? How can I support my body without interfering with my medical care?
And for caregivers, there may be an entirely different set of questions.
How do I support someone I love while also taking care of myself?
For Christians navigating cancer, there is another important part of the journey as well: How do we care for the body and mind while remaining rooted in our faith and keeping Christ at the center?
These are some of the questions that led me to create Rooted Resilience™, and they are also why I recently went back through the program and updated it.
Why I Updated Rooted Resilience™
My goal with Rooted Resilience™ has never been to replace the healthcare team.
Quite the opposite.
I believe patients deserve a strong medical team and access to evidence-informed cancer care. But after more than 25 years working in healthcare, including many years in cancer genetics and genomics, I have also seen how much of the cancer journey happens outside the clinical setting.
Patients go home.
Caregivers go home.
And life continues between appointments.
Over the past year, I have continued learning, teaching, working with patients and caregivers, and developing whole-person cancer education. I wanted the Rooted Resilience™ course to reflect that continued growth.
So I went back through the program, updated the educational content and resources, and strengthened the areas I believe can help patients and caregivers better understand how everyday lifestyle choices can support overall well-being throughout the cancer journey.
The result is an updated Christ-centered, self-paced online program for cancer patients and caregivers, designed to provide practical education, encouragement, and support between appointments and beyond.
What You'll Explore Inside Rooted Resilience™
Cancer can affect far more than one part of the body, and supporting well-being requires looking at the whole person.
Inside Rooted Resilience™, we explore areas including plant-forward nutrition, hydration, gentle movement, rest, stress and breath support, lymphatic wellness, environmental exposures, genetics and nutrigenomics, symptom-support strategies, caregiver wellness, and other practical aspects of whole-person health.
The goal is not perfection.
It is not about creating an overwhelming list of things you suddenly need to change because you or someone you love has cancer.
It is about education.
When we understand more about the factors that influence our health, we can begin making thoughtful, sustainable choices that support our overall well-being.
Sometimes that may mean adding more nourishing whole foods to the plate. Sometimes it may mean taking a short walk, prioritizing hydration, practicing a breathing exercise, getting more rest, or becoming more aware of products and exposures in the home.
Small choices matter, especially when they become part of how we care for ourselves over time.
Caregivers Are Part of the Cancer Journey, Too
One of the most important aspects of Rooted Resilience™ is that it is not only for the person diagnosed with cancer.
Caregivers matter.
Cancer can change routines, responsibilities, relationships, finances, meals, sleep, and emotional well-being for an entire family.
Yet caregivers can become so focused on the person they love that their own health quietly moves to the bottom of the list.
Rooted Resilience™ intentionally includes caregivers because supporting someone through cancer should not require completely abandoning your own well-being.
Caregivers need nourishment.
They need movement.
They need rest.
They need tools for managing stress.
They need support.
And sometimes, they simply need to hear that caring for themselves is part of caring well for someone else.
Keeping Christ at the Center
For me, whole-person wellness includes the body, mind, and spirit.
Rooted Resilience™ is intentionally Christ-centered because faith can be an important source of strength, hope, meaning, and connection throughout difficult seasons.
Cancer can bring uncertainty. It can raise questions we never expected to ask and create circumstances we never imagined navigating.
Faith does not mean pretending those difficult emotions do not exist.
Instead, Rooted Resilience™ creates space to care for your physical and emotional well-being while continuing to remain grounded in Christ throughout the journey.
We can learn about nutrition.
We can move our bodies.
We can practice stress-management techniques.
We can become more informed about our health.
And we can pray.
These things do not have to compete with one another.
Support Between Appointments and Beyond
One of the things I love most about the updated Rooted Resilience™ program is its flexibility.
This is not another appointment you have to fit into an already complicated schedule.
The course is online and self-paced, allowing you to learn from home and move through the material when it works for you.
And because enrollment includes lifetime access, you do not have to absorb everything at once.
You can revisit nutrition when you're ready to make changes in the kitchen. Return to stress-support tools during a particularly difficult season. Revisit caregiver education when circumstances change. Come back to lessons months later as you move into a different part of the cancer or survivorship journey.
The information remains there for you between appointments and beyond.
Rooted Resilience™ Complements Medical Care
This distinction is incredibly important to me.
Rooted Resilience™ is not cancer treatment, and it is not designed to replace your oncologist, primary care provider, dietitian, therapist, or other members of your healthcare team.
It is designed to complement medical care with education and supportive whole-person wellness strategies.
If you are undergoing cancer treatment or managing other health conditions, decisions about significant dietary changes, supplements, exercise, or other health interventions should be discussed with the appropriate members of your healthcare team.
My hope is that Rooted Resilience™ helps you become more informed, gives you practical questions to consider, and provides tools you can use as you work alongside the professionals caring for you.
You Don't Have to Navigate Cancer Alone
Whether you are newly diagnosed, currently navigating treatment, moving into survivorship, or caring for someone you love, there can be moments when the cancer journey feels incredibly isolating.
Rooted Resilience™ was created to help fill some of the space between medical appointments with education, encouragement, practical tools, faith, and support.
You can move through the program privately, from home, and at your own pace.
And with lifetime access, it is there when you need to come back.
